The Grand Master's Pin GM’s Pin Reflects a Journey Well Traveled By Mark A. Genung Grand Lodge PR & Marketing Director
Every Grand Master beginning in 1992-93 with Max Carpenter, PGM have designed and made available to the Craft a Grand Masters Pin. The designs of the pins are inspired by the GM’s journey to his year as leader of Freemasonry in Indiana. Several of our Brothers collect and display the fifteen available (some very hard to find) pins. Grand Master Vaught’s pin design is a reflection of his rich experience thru Freemasonry. During the Grand Masters years in York Rite Freemasonry he contemplated a design for a unique ring with a local jeweler. That ring the Grand Master wears demonstrates for others his Knight Templar history and his ardent commitment to Freemasonry. The Grand Master knew that the ring was the foundation for his Grand Masters Pin. The design of the pin with its prominent arch and keystone over the Square and Compass has a significant meaning. The Keystone is the central stone in the arch, that stone at the highest point, locks the others in place. The square and compass surrounded with the stalwart arch and keystone alludes to our rich heritage and the mystic ties that have bound men together throughout the centuries. The design of the ring therefore demonstrates that the Keystone of Freemasonry, the Square and Compass, should upon reflection be recognized as the highest point to which Freemasons aspire.
