Masonic Term Beginning:
George A. Ingles, Jr., the 162nd Grand Master of Masons in Indiana was born August 4,
1944 in Columbus, Ohio to George A. Ingles, Sr. and Betty Penwell Ingles. George is
the oldest of his siblings. He has one sister, Vicky Havens, two half brothers, Michael
and Robert, and two half-sisters, Susan DeWeese and Rebecca Webb. All reside in Ohio
except for Michael, who resides in Texas. His Mother passed away in 1978 and Father in
1999.
On Christmas day 1961, while having dinner at his friend’s house, he met Karen Hart, his
friend’s cousin. Something must have sparked as she lived in Lexington, Kentucky and
him in Belfast, Ohio. On August 31, 1963 they were married and a daughter, Tiffany,
finally arrived 17 years later.
He attended school in southeastern Ohio graduating from Belfast Local School May of
1962. Three weeks after graduating he joined the Army and served for six years in Air
Defense as a Nike Hercules Missile technician. He was honorably discharged in 1968 as
an E-6 Staff Sergeant from El Paso, Texas. After leaving the Army, he was employed at
North Pittsburgh Telephone Company from 1968 to 1988. He left the phone company to
become a Sales Engineer and then District Sales Manager for Nortel Networks until
retirement in 2002.
The family are members of Hazelwood Christian Church in Muncie, Indiana.
George was raised to the sublime Degree of Master Mason on September 23, 1976 in
Butler Lodge No. 272 in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he served as Worshipful Master in
1984.
He joined the Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle, PA in May of 1977, serving in the cast
for a number of degrees. In 1999 he transferred his membership to the Scottish Rite
Valley of Indianapolis, and he was created an Honorary Member of the Supreme Council
33rd degree in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on September 27, 2004. Joining the Butler York
Rite in 1979, George served as High Priest in 1982, Illustrious Master in 1985 and
Eminent Commander in 1986. He was appointed Marshal of the Grand Commandery in
1988 but resigned 6 months later due to relocating. Arriving in Indiana in June of 1994,
he became active in the York Rite. Joining in Mooresville, he served twice as Illustrious
Master of Forest A. Wakeman Council No. 110. He also served as Commander of
William G. Bray Commandery No. 65 and Raper Commandery No. 1. He served as
Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar in Indiana in the year
2003-2004.
In the Masonic youth organizations, he served on the Board for the Rainbow Assembly of
Butler, PA and as an advisor for the DeMolay Chapter in Butler. He received the
Honorary Legion of Honor International Order of DeMolay in 2004. In Job’s Daughters,
he served as Associate Bethel Guardian of Brownsburg Bethel No. 107 and as Associate
Grand Guardian of Indiana in 2008-2009.
He is a member of the Order of the Purple Cross, Associate Regent, and York Rite
Sovereign College of North America. He is a member of the Order of the Amaranth,
Golden Link Court No. 4; the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, Indianapolis No.6; and Order of the Eastern Star, Brownsburg Chapter No. 266. He served as Worthy
Patron in 1997 with his wife and again in 2010 with his daughter.
He is a member of numerous other appendent Masonic organizations. Many of these he
has presided and or served as secretary of those organizations.
George is a plural member of Parker Lodge No. 630 in Parker City, Indiana where he
served as Worshipful Master in 2008, and a member of Bartimaeus UD. He was
appointed by Duane L. Vaught, PGM as Junior Grand Deacon, appointed as Senior
Grand Deacon by Jeffery P. Zaring, PGM, elected as Junior Grand Warden, Senior Grand
Warden, Deputy Grand Master, and Grand Master in 2012.
